Beautiful sexy richness. Great lift and energy while also being polished and refined. A finish that goes on for days. This sees more new oak than the other 2020s. Probably my favorite of these 2020s, but that's a personal thing.
Potent and brooding, this blend slowly reveals itself, with a medley of blackberry, roasted anise, crushed stone and white pepper flavors that build toward burly tannins. Hands off for now. Syrah, Grenache, Graciano, Mataro, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. Best from 2025 through 2034. 1,272 cases made.
The 2020 Broken Stones combines 57% Syrah, 13% Grenache, 11% Graciano, 10% Mataro, 6% Petite Sirah and 3% Zinfandel. The nose is brooding, perfumed and intriguing, driven by dark-fruited, peppery, savory aromas with accents of purple flowers. The palate is unabashed in its plush concentration, leading to an intense and harmonious finish of structured, fine tannins surrounding grilled, meaty flavors.
