On the nose, it offers rich and warm aromas of ripe red fruits, abundant in spice, with a pronounced licorice presence that melds harmoniously with inviting oak notes. The palate is a fruit-forward delight, bursting with ripe cherries and raspberries in their most decadent jam and candied forms. Oak spice notes complement the fruit, creating a complex and well-balanced flavor profile.
The Gianfranco Alessandria 2020 Barolo ferments in steel and ages in French oak. It's a classic representation of the vintage with simple lines and lots of dark fruit. All the action is here, but maybe the intensity is a little more subdued overall. It closes with fine and elegant lines, but it doesn't have that same bright or lifted quality that you get in cooler vintages. I would recommend this for near or medium-term consumption.
