So much stone fruit and super-ripe grapefruit, but only a hint of exotic and floral extravagance. Great balance of richness and freshness, the full-bodied palate remarkably straight and clean for this grape variety. The lively acidity and delicate chalky character give this so much personality at the very long finish. Drink or hold.
Formerly marketed with the addition of "Vieilles Vignes" (old vines) on the label, the 2020 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum offers a pure and refreshing mineral nose that exhibits lemon notes intertwined with smoky notes of cold crushed stones. Rich and smooth but tight and very mineral on the palate, this is a powerful, still somewhat bitter and tightly woven Furstentum that will need some time to refine and soften its fine but grippy tannins. This 2020 has more alcohol (14.5%) than the 2019, with 22 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022.
