A Great New Price on a Napa Cab Hidden Jewel Rated 93pts

An Estate winery that is comparatively new in Napa Valley, O'Shaughnessy was founded in 1996 with the acquisition of land in Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder and Oakville. Made by winemaker Sean Capiaux the wines of O'Shaughnessy are made in a very classic style, using modern implements, including other classic Bordeaux varietals to support the Cabernet Sauvignon. With meticulous site selection and clonal selections these are rich and complex wines that are very ageworthy. We have proudly been working with the wines of O'Shaughnessy going back to their first commercial releases. They were presented to us by the distributor sales rep as the next cult favorite of Napa, and he sure wasn't wrong! These wines are impressive vintage after vintage. The care and precision that is put into each bottle is apparent from the very first sip. 

O'Shaughnessy's Napa Valley Cabernet, today's featured wine, is getting quite a bit of talk around the valley and beyond as it is the only Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that is made only from estate vineyards on Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain and Oakville. The same vineyards used for their single estate bottlings (we have a delicious Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon in stock that will make you forget that 2017 was not the greatest vintage overall).

From the Winery - "This is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with an opaque purple color and perfumed aromas of blackberry compote, orange blossom, cassis, creme brulee, and cocoa. On the palate the wine is plush and concentrated with well-integrated tannins and a vibrant finish. Lush enough to be consumed now and structured enough to hold for decades thanks to the mountain heritage of this beautiful wine."

Inky dark fruit, graphite, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice give the 2018 its distinctly savory, soil-driven personality. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral overtones. The tannins need time to soften, but there is a lot to look forward to. This is a very serious, polished wine. O'Shaughnessy's Napa Valley Cabernet remains one of the hidden jewels in Napa Valley."
