Giovanni Manzone Barolo Castelleto 2015 Release Price - Varmax Sale Price (while supplies last!) - $39.99 - The lowest price anywhere! From some of the highest vineyards in the Barolo DOC, Giovanni Manzone creates Barolo of the typical great structure that the region is known for, along with subtle, ethereal components that give his Barolos a very pretty delicate nuance and perfect ripeness. The vineyards are steep as well, and yields are low, but the berries here are concentrated, which comes through very apparently in the finished bottle. Wines here are produced traditionally and naturally in the vineyards, where no pesticides or herbicides were ever used. Still a family run estate, Giovanni Manzone works with his son and daughter Mauro and Mirella, both having gradutated from the famed Oenology School of Alba, and are the 5th generation of winemakers in the family. They have been making Barolo in 1 hectare Castelleto vineyard since 1961. It is steep with very poor soil - clay, limestone and sandstone are all apparent, giving the wines from this plot an inherent structure with smooth tannins, a rich midpalate and of course, great longevity. Rated 95 Points by Vinous - "Manzone's 2015 Barolo Castelletto is truly impressive. Bold, rich and pulsing with energy, the 2015 captures all the vibrancy that makes Barolos from Castelletto so distinctive, with an extra touch of mid-palate sweetness. If that sounds appealing, well, it is. Rose petal, bright red berry fruit, mint, chalk and wild flowers all run through this wonderfully nuanced, translucent Barolo. There is so much to like here. What a pretty wine this is." Rated 91 Points by the Wine Advocate - "With fruit from Monforte d'Alba, the 2015 Barolo Castelletto is a darkly concentrated and thick expression of Nebbiolo with ripe fruit tones that emerge first from the glass. That initial wave is composed of black cherry, blackberry and ripe plum. This is a soft and more accessible expression of Barolo that shows some oak spice and smoke to round off the more rigid contours of the Nebbilo grape. It spends 30 months in wood, half of it in tonneaux and the other half in botte grande. Some 5,500 bottles were made." This particular wine from the excellent, classic and collectible 2015 vintage has a release price of $89. It is seen, where still available, above $45 elsewhere, so we are thrilled to get this wine into our customers glasses and cellars for $39.99 per bottle! Cheers! Tracy Maxon |
